My name is Immaculate Namugabo from Kamuli Uganda.Growing up everyone has a dream and I was never an exception. I was excited to finally join campus since it had been a struggle due to insufficient tuition fees. My friends had already joined campus and many times I felt left out but I kept trusting in God to make a way. My joy knew no bounds when I got admitted to Kampala International University though it was never my first choice.

I was staying with my elder brothers and on one Sunday I asked them where they were going for service. Interestingly they invited me to United Faith Chapel and that is how I came to learn about University Discipleship Movement (UDM). That was the onset of my beautiful walk with Christ.

Worship ministry I guess is one of the collective ministries and it also became my first landing spot. With time I was able to understand my calling, gifting and talents hence I was able to join other ministries. I was interested in the kids’ ministry and I was able to get involved in Sunday school teaching and Bible club. I also got a chance to serve in the ladies ministry as their coordinator. Later on I joined ushering ministry where I serve at the moment.

Being the ‘mama’ of the ladies ministry gave me an ample space for my spiritual growth. I got equipped with superb leadership skills that I know will be of great importance in my life. I learnt the true art of genuinely getting involved in the life of others, especially ladies and doing life together as God’s family. This pushed me out of my comfort zone and it helped me cultivate the daily habit of reading the Bible consistently.

Serving in the kids’ ministry shaped my virtue of patience and the ability to listen and understand the children in a deeper way. Kids have a genuine inquisitive nature that is quite intriguing hence one needs to have wisdom in responding to them. This helped me to build my urge to understand the bible in order to engage with the kids effectively. I got a chance to interact with kids from diverse backgrounds and this molded me to unite them together as one.

UDM provided an avenue for me to get exposed to different mentors who have impacted my life in a positive way. They have walked with me every step of the way and showed me the right path to follow. At one point in time I felt like changing churches but one of my mentor offered to first go and attend the service in the prospective church I wanted to join. He then sat me down and advised me accordingly as a father would with their own daughter. I love the fact that they have all played a major role in my Christian growth and they have done in the most affectionate way. I receive correction from them openly and this has helped me grow tremendously.

Avenues like Bible study has enabled me to interact with scriptures in a deeper way, within its context and to even meditate on God’s word. I have been challenged to incorporate what I have learnt from the study into my own lifestyle. Other activities like the annual camp has provided an opportunity to meet with new people and make new friends. Meeting such people has also given me a chance to share different ideas regarding different aspects of life.

UDM has contributed a great percentage towards my growth not only spiritually but all rounded. I have learnt the art of managing finances through the speakers that come to speak with us and this has helped me save intentionally. I have also developed my talent and I have seen myself grow and taken my art to a different level. My vision has grown and am trusting God to bring it into completion at His own timing.  I joined campus when I was innocent and very naïve but am glad UDM has shaped me into a bold courageous lady.

My spiritual life has systematically grown ever since I joined UDM. I have grown in the area of discernment and the ability to first test everything before I indulge in them. I have come to realize the importance of filtering what I take in because everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial. I can now read the Bible on my own and even share what I learnt with my friends which I used not to. I have learnt how to relate with both christians and non- believers and represent Christ in my day-to-day life.

I am grateful to the UDM fraternity for providing me with such amazing avenues for growth and because of such encounters I am who I am today. My desire is to keep growing and to keep my light shining for Jesus who saved me while I was still a sinner. May God bless you and keep you.
